Treatment, transport and storage of bituminous waste
Design and implement a solution adapted to the reconditioning of bituminous drums, taking into account all technical, operational and regulatory constraints.
-
In the past, bitumen has been used to condition sludge from effluent treatment. This waste, packaged in drums, has been stored for many years awaiting final packaging for final disposal.
After several decades of storage, these drums may present problems of corrosion and/or loss of containment due to the use of bitumen. It is therefore necessary to recondition them in a safer way.
Due to their nature and the evolution of regulations, this operation can be very complex in terms of the search for reliable and relevant solutions and their implementation.
Due to its experience with this type of waste, Orano has the capacity to design and implement a solution adapted to the reconditioning of bituminous drums, taking into account all technical, operational and regulatory constraints.
Orano offers a turn-key solution for the recovery, reconditioning, transport and storage of bituminous drums :

Orano has been operating facilities for over 40 years that generate waste. In order to manage this waste, Orano has deployed many innovative strategies..
Orano has solid experience in the field of bituminous drum recovery, particularly at the Marcoule site, where more than 5 700 drums have been recovered to date. Orano has deployed a complete solution at the Marcoule site, from the collection of the drums directly from the storage cell, their treatment and reconditioning, and then their transport to a facility also designed by Orano..
For this process, a mobile recovery cell, adaptable to all bituminous drum storage facilities, was used to remove the drums from their storage. The drums were then transported to the reconditioning cell using a specially adapted vehicle. Finally, the reconditioning was carried out in a single location. All these operations were carried out taking into account all the regulatory constraints and optimising costs (for example, the use of a mobile recovery cell) and planning.
