Designing glove boxes and shielded units
Orano develops and produces custom long-lasting facilities with high levels of reliability suitable for the specific characteristics of the required operations when working in confined spaces.
-
For processes in a hostile environment requiring input by operators in normal conditions and/or during maintenance, design radiation protection and containment enclosures to:
- Guarantee the safety and security of both facilities and operators,
- Provide the best possible conditions for all tasks attributable to operators.
-
Support our customers from the feasibility study to process commissioning and beyond for any new designs or upgrades to existing facilities.
This co-construction phase also includes:
- understanding the process and any inherent adaptations to meet the customer’s precise needs,
- analysing the working conditions of the future operator,
- taking account of safety requirements, the working environment and co-activities,
- validating the solution via virtual reality and/or testing in a test hall.
-
- A package deal ranging from determining feasibility to process commissioning
- The design of new facilities or integration in current facilities
- Close attention paid to ensuring that operators can access equipment for maintenance operations
- The use of "standardised" equipment
- Consideration of downgraded modes and the associated precautionary measures from the design phase.
-
- 40 years of feedback on the design and operation of mechanical and chemical facilities and preventive/corrective maintenance operations performed in glove boxes and shielded units.
- Orano engineers are involved in group projects for the La Hague, Melox or Bessines-sur-Gartempe plant. Outside of the group, studies can relate to CEA facilities, and also facilities worldwide
- Combined specific engineering/operator know-how at industrial sites
- Familiarity with hostile environments for people and equipment, extensive expertise in materials in aggressive environments.
