Safety Analysis Report (S.A.R.)
A report that analyzes safety risks and describes facility design and construction measures taken to ensure safety. - Preliminary Safety Analysis Report (PSAR): Prepared during the preliminary design phase, contains a general description of the facility. Its purpose is to identify risks, to develop performance objectives, to list design bases and to justify site selection. In France, it serves as the basis for the license application in accordance with the 1963 executive order. - Interim Safety Analysis Report: Submitted in support of the application for an operating permit, it describes the as-built facility and verifies that it is consistent with the design bases in the PSAR.

Substations
Substations convert entering current to the required voltage so that it may be transferred over power lines. Substations can either step up voltage for electricity transmission over long distances, or reduce voltage for distribution to houses, buildings and customer sites.
SWR 1000
Orders have not yet been placed for the SWR 1000 (Siede Wasser Reaktor), the most recent boiling water reactor developed by AREVA. This next-generation reactor operates in the medium-power range, supplying about 1,000 to 1,250 MWe of power. The SWR 1000 helps reduce the price of the kilowatt-hour by drawing on existing technology and reducing maintenance requirements. It also has a service life of 60 years.
SWU
The output of an enrichment plant is expressed in separation work units (SWU). This unit is proportional to the amount of uranium processed and gives a measure of the work required to separate the fissile isotope.
